CHRIST SUFFERED IN OBEDIENCE

 

For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.  (John 6:38)

 

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS  (click on the underlined verses to read them)

Because God loved us, God sent His Son to die for us.  1 John 4:10-11   (The sacrifice of Christ on the cross satisfied the demands of God's Holiness for the punishment of sin.)

God's eternal will for sending Christ was that those who believe in Him would be raised on the last day and have everlasting life with Him.  John 6:34-40  (See The dead will be raised)

Christ did exactly as His Father commanded.  Heb 10:5-10,  John 14:30-31

His highest priority was to do the will of His Father, and to finish His work.  John 4:31-38

Even in deep sorrow, well aware of the agonizing physical, emotional and spiritual battles ahead,  He didn’t waver from God's will.  He prayed: "If it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will but as You will."     Matt 26:36-44,  Luke 22:39-54  (See in context:  Matt 26:36-56,  Luke 22:39-54)

By His own free will, He chose to lay down His life and obey His Father.   John 10:17-18

Christ always did those things that pleased His Father.  He did nothing of Himself.  John 8:28-29

He did not seek His own glory, but honored His Father.  John 8:48-51

He did not seek His own will but the will of His Father who sent Him.   John 5:30, John 6:37-40  John 12:49-50,  John 14:7-11

He preached because it was His purpose.  Mark 1:38-39 Luke 4:43-44

He spoke the message His Father gave Him.  John 12:49-50

Even as a child, He set His mind on His Father's business.  Luke 2:42-50

As long as He lived on the earth, He would do His Father's works.   John 9:1-6

He gave His life for our sins in accordance to His Father's will.  Gal 1:3-5

God called Him to be a High Priest forever.  Though His call included terrible suffering, He learned obedience by the things which He sufferedHeb 5:5-11

By His death on the cross, He would reconcile all things to God.   This work pleased God the Father.  Col 1:19-23  (Remember, His goal when He lived on earth was to please His Father.  John 8:28-29)

His suffering and His victory fulfilled the prophecies foretold by the Prophets.  Acts 3:18-21 Acts 26:22-23  (See Old Testament Only)

Choosing to serve, He confirmed the Old Testament promises.  Rom 15:8
